Time to talk about exploitation
Organisations working with young people and their families may be interested in the resources the Violence and Vulnerability Partnership have produced on exploitation.
Using lived experience and information from conversations with young people and parents we have created downloadable resources on how to spot the signs of exploitation and how to talk to young people about the issue.
For those parents that notice a change in attitude, a change in behaviour, a gut feeling that something is different, something is off – our resources can help guide you on how to have a conversation with your child about exploitation, including a suggested script to navigate a tricky topic.
For those that work with young people, you’re not just a coach, teacher or mentor, you might be the first person that notices something’s not quite right – a quiet student, a distracted player, a child that suddenly hides their phone. All may seem quite small but added up these signs could mean that a young person is being groomed or exploited. Our resources show you what to look out for and what to do with any suspicions.
Our film shows three scenarios of what it can be like for children who have been groomed or exploited, highlighting that it could happen to any child.
You can find the resources at www.essexvvu.co.uk/exploitation Please share with your networks. You don’t have to see it all to say something.
