Knife Angel arrives in Southend

On Monday 1 July representatives from the Violence and Vulnerability Unit visited Southend for the opening ceremony of the Knife Angel – the 27-foot national monument against violence and aggression.

The Knife Angel was unveiled in a special ceremony at Victoria Circus which bought together safety partners from across the county, highlighting unity against violent crime, in support for those who have lost their lives.

The High Sheriff for Essex, Southend-on-Sea City Council, Essex Police, Essex PFCC and Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, together with ambulance service and NHS colleagues were among those who attended, as well as members of the public.

The Knife Angel will stay in Southend until Sunday 28 July. A full programme of educational activities is planned as part of the Knife Angel’s visit, including youth engagement and public awareness workshops, school visits, music and creative workshops, photography, poetry and art opportunities and first aid demonstrations.  Find out more at Visit Southend.
