On Wednesday, 11 June African Families in the UK (AFiUK) celebrated ten years of community impact and giving a voice to local British African families.
Held at First Site in Colchester the ten-year anniversary saw a range of dignitaries, partners and community leaders come together to celebrate the achievements of AFiUK, share memories and make plans for the next ten years.
There was a big focus on partnership and the power of multiplication – working together to improve outcomes, challenge inequalities and create collective compassion.
Founder of AFiUK Dr Rachel Walton, spoke about their community ambassador scheme and how this has grown to not only support communities and clients seeking support and navigating their way through public services, but also the way it brings out capabilities in the ambassadors themselves – showing them strengths they didn’t realise they had.
Lord Lieutenant of Essex, Mrs Jennifer Tolhurst, gave a speech on her involvement with the organisation and how they had created real change across the Colchester and Tendring community, enriching lives and empowering families.
It was a really joyous event showcasing a really positive community organisation
