Using lived experience and the stories of young people we work with, we created some films that speak to parents about the different types of exploitation. These films teach parents how to spot the signs of exploitation and give them the tools to start a conversation with a young person they may be worried about.
The films were informed by young people and therefore we have developed them to sit alongside three lesson plans that can also be used to educate secondary school pupils about exploitation.
The lesson plans are for use in secondary school settings or for school-aged pupils from Y8 upwards.
The lesson plans should be used sequentially and aim to challenge existing knowledge and inform discussion. They reiterate the importance of a good network of friends and trusted adults, as well as teaching about the types of exploitation, making decisions within risky situations and making positive choices.
The VVU worked with The Training Effect to create lesson plans based on feedback from teachers and those in the education sector.
We hope they will provoke interest and stimulate discussion among pupils.
